Her hands paused as a loud rap on the door broke into her concentration. Declining to answer, she inspected the couch, scrutinizing its worn cushions.
The door swung open behind her and Sora walked in, offering his advice, or assistance, or some such thing. She grabbed a last article of clothing from her bag-- a jacket --and folded it into a drawer.
"I assure you that it's not a problem, Captain." she asked icily. Refusing to look at him, she zipped the bag back up before storing it in the drawer with her clothing. Straightening her spine, she focused on the wall, her back still to him. Her head tilted slightly to the side as if listening for something, then she turned quickly and made to walk past him back toward the bridge.
"I assume we are going to be launching soon," she said, "Unless there's been some manner of miscommunication?"

That was not cool. Sora didn't like being disrespected on his own ship. He wasn't happy about it. This girl was nice, but that was IT.
He turned loudly and angrily towards Nyx, walking much faster than she did to catch up. Just as she was about to walk onto the bridge, he thrust his arm out, across the entry, barring her way. He glared directly into her eyes, his icy blue eyes meeting hers. He was every bit of his 5 foot 9 inch height at the moment, and he didn't care if she was smarter than him.
"You listen to me, and you listen good. I'm easy going on this ship. VERY easy going. EXTREMELY. Quite possibly the MOST easygoing captain in the fleet." At this point, his arm dropped. "But you listen to me. NO captain, NO CAPTAIN, will take ANY disrespect from his crewmembers. NONE." His glare had not lessened. "I asked you a simple question. If you don't want to talk about it, if it's too personal, then say so. Don't brush me off." He then walked onto the bridge and started the take off sequence, not looking at his programmer.

Nyx pressed her lips into a thin line, glaring icily at the Captain's back. Her heart was still pounding from the jolt of fear that had struck her upon all but running into him. She was all too aware that he was seven inches taller than her in that moment, and much stronger.
She breathed in and out, then made her way to her station, organizing the various notebooks into what looked like some semblance of order. As the terminal booted, she tried to force down the coldly simmering anger and memories. They came anyway.
The interrogator had been in an absolute fury after his prey escaped, not least because of the bullet wound he had sustained in the process. Everyone made sure to steer clear of him. Those that hadn't been warned endured a nasty shock upon meeting the man.
She brought her attention fully to bear on the lines of code in front of her. It was beautiful. Absolutely beautiful. She despised it.
"Fifteen years ago, I encountered this code for the first time," she said stiffly. "It doesn't seem to have changed much."
The silence hung for a fraction of a moment, while she made her decision.
"Silas Mavren. Tall, about five-ten. Blond hair, grey eyes," she listed off the physical attributes casually. "Quite the sadist, as I recall." She carefully avoided looking at the captain. "You wouldn't happen to know him?"

He sat down. As she made her first pronouncement, he glanced up sharply. They were out, and headed towards Cyl, but he was confused about what she meant. Hadn't seen it for 15 years? What the hell did she mean?
And then she said the name. Silas.
He suddenly sprang up, a look on his face so fearsome he might have meant to kill her. He then screamed in his native language, "Dieser verdammt Sohn - von - a - Weibchen!" ((That f**king son of a pregnant dog!)) He slammed his fist into a bulkhead, leaving a rather large dent. The walls were made of strong metal- that shouldn't have happened.
He then sat down, overwhelmed by the emotions. He put his hand on his temple, and sighed. "Ja kenne ich ihn. Und er brennt in der Hölle, bevor ich meinen Hersteller treffe." He didn't realize he was speaking in german for a moment, but he translated quickly enough. "Sorry... Yes, I know him. And he'll burn in hell before I meet my maker."

The captain's outburst startled her badly, her heart leaping into her throat for a moment. After a moment, however, he seemed to calm down fractionally. Her relief at the restraint was marginal, however, as her eyes remained firmly focused on the deeply dented bulkhead.
That... should not have been possible... she thought in shock.
There was a moment of silence, oddly punctuated by the sudden stillness that had fallen over the bridge. She studied the dented wall, wondering airily if the ship was still spaceworthy before she forced herself back into more rational patterns of thought. Plainly, her initial analysis of the situation had been correct. This ship was the same Twilight she remembered, and her new captain was the escaped prisoner that had instigated her knowledge of the ship in the first place.
Some of her fellow programmers would probably be making cracks about Karma and Fate at about this time, but Nyx refused to let herself wonder.
Aware that she had let the silence sit for too long, she let her reddish eyes drift from the dented bulkhead to Sora's face. " And I suppose that you plan to be the one to send him there?"

His eyes glanced up at Nyx's face for a moment, seeing the trace amounts of shock and fear in her face. So she did feel emotion. He had been wondering. He then sighed, and looked back down.
As she asked him the question, he muttered under his breath, "That would be a treat..." Truthfully, he'd dreamt of it. He knew that the man had killed Petrov. He'd tortured Sora. And probably killed and tortured countless others. That ruthless man was a terror, the very face of the Alliance to Sora. He would not allow the man to escape if he could help it.
No. He would follow orders.
But God help that man if his orders brought him near Silas.
He looked up at Nyx. "No. I will follow my orders to the best of my ability." He sighed. "We're headed to an old friend... he needs some help in his sector. In the meantime, keep up defenses in case enemy hackers want in. I trust you can do it fairly easily- you are, after all, exceptional." He then picked up a small notebook and began writing in it, notes for his own use. "Please alert me if anything comes up. Or if you need anything."
He ceased to speak, or even to breathe hardly. He was silent as he scribbled into the book.

Nyx studied her captain's expression, the uncomfortable feeling that she'd given something away settling in her gut.
Following her own orders, she sifted through the lines of code in front of her, referring back to the notebooks to her left whenever something appeared that was too unfamiliar for her to decipher on what knowledge she had. To her dismay, this happened far more often than she would have liked. The creator of this code really was a genius. It was a more a work of art than the function-oriented codes she'd worked with before, but it was better than any of them.
Her utter loathing for the code put a bad taste in her mouth, but she kept going until she felt that she had a firm grip on the way the codes and systems cooperated with each other. Quickly, she set up the defenses that she knew she could maintain, while starting the framework for others that she would build as she became more familiar with the code.
"Whenever you are ready, Captain," she said.

Sora put down the book, and took hold of the controls on the panel in front of him. "Then let's punch it." The ship gave a sudden burst, and they were gone from the station.
Sora was gone too. He was in his pilot zone.
